MAJOR EXHIBITION OF EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS OPENS IN MOSCOW

  Russia's largest exhibition of the latest ideas in education - Educational Environment-2004 - opens in Moscow on Wednesday, according to the Federal Agency for Education and the science and education complex of the Russian Exhibition Center.

   The forum, being held for the sixth time, is being attended by more than 300 organizations from 44 of Russia's regions. Besides, among the participants are representatives of more than 70 higher and 50 secondary specialized educational establishments.

   One of the main features it was decided to include in the exhibition following the Beslan hostage taking is security in educational establishments, Yury Mukhin, deputy director for exhibitions at the joint-stock company, Science and Education united pavilion of the center, told RIA Novosti.

   In particular, organizers say that subjects to be discussed during the exhibition will be installation of alert buttons and security measures being devised by specialists of the Federal Agency for Education jointly with Emergencies Ministry and Interior Ministry experts.

   Educational aids are featured prominently at the exhibition. More than 100 exhibits, including toys for children of pre-school age and simulator rigs to repair and maintain cars in schools, are on display.

   The organizers say that 70 to 80 per cent of the specimens on view are the latest developments. Two new sections have been put on concerning "where to study" and "where to work."

   Priorities in education will be highlighted on the second day at an all-Russian educational conference to be attended by representatives of practically all colleges and universities of Russia.

   In addition, the organizers say, the exhibition will show a special laboratory for passing a unified state examination, at which everyone willing to try it may have a go.
